Day 2: The Example of Christ

Scripture:
“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” – Mark 10:45 (ESV)

When we think about discipleship, we don’t have to reinvent the wheel. We just have to look at Jesus. His life wasn’t a classroom—it was a journey walked out with others. He didn’t just speak truth from a stage; He lived it out among His friends, neighbors, outcasts, and skeptics.

Jesus spent time with people. He ate with them. He cried with them. He challenged them and cared for them. He brought the truth of God into everyday conversations and moments—on the road, at dinner tables, while healing, resting, or traveling.

That’s the example we follow: a life immersed in love, truth, and service.

For us, that means discipleship is about presence. It’s about slowing down enough to be available—to listen, to notice, to love intentionally. It also means we don’t disciple from a distance. We serve others by inviting them into our lives, our routines, and even our mess.

This doesn’t require perfection. In fact, it requires honesty. People don’t grow by watching someone pretend they’ve got it all together. They grow when they’re invited into a life that’s being shaped by grace.

Faithful Bible teaching is central in this process—but it’s not just about knowing the Word. It’s about living it out, together. Jesus taught in the synagogue, yes—but also while walking with His disciples, explaining things as they came up in real time. That’s what we aim to do as well: hold God’s Word high, and bring it into our real lives.

We disciple best when we serve like Jesus, love like Jesus, and remain rooted in the same Spirit that empowered Him.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What stands out to you most about how Jesus discipled others?

  2. How can you begin to model the life of Jesus more fully in your daily interactions?

  3. Who in your life needs more than advice—who needs your presence?
